Entryways are important — it’s the space that welcomes you in after a long day and gives your guests a first glimpse into the rest of your home. When creating a feel-good entryway vibe, a thoughtful design detail can make a big difference, and in the case of Jennifer Garner’s entryway, that detail is her staircase trim.

This week, Jennifer Garner posted an Instagram reel of her sitting in a chair, reading a range of children’s books in various positions. While the main focus of the clip was to promote Save the Children’s 100 Days of Reading campaign, which aims to help children across the U.S. read during the summer months, Garner’s elegant staircase backdrop that she posed in front of was hard to ignore — specifically, the thin, delicate trim that flowed under the dark wood steps and above the rest of the molding.

This detailed trim adds a stylish statement to the minimalist staircase, elevating Garner’s modern home aesthetic. It looks uneven yet intentional, spilling down the side of the stairs to create a subtle, untraditional design moment. And while this uniquely shaped trim might not be the easiest to recreate, there are plenty of peel and stick trim options available online to add some stylish depth onto the side of your stairs.

Beyond molding, there are plenty of other easy and affordable ways to enhance your entryway, too. For a quick update, host of HGTV’s “50K Three Ways” Tiffany Brooks suggests adding on-trend geometric wallpaper, or replacing the spindles on the staircase. Instead of reaching for your typical wooden spindles, Brooks often opts for a dark metal.

So the next time you’re looking to update your entryway, take a page out of Garner’s book and make every step of the way count with a subtle, stylish finish to your staircase.
